Dear Vanessa Latimer:
I am writing to provide you with an update about the Wolfe Island ferry service.
Based on preliminary assessments from our marine experts, the Wolfe Islander IV (WI4)
will need to go to dry dock at Ontario Shipyards in Hamilton for further inspection and
repairs. The ministry plans to relocate it on Saturday, December 21. The vessel will be
transported with the support of tugs as a precaution.
Once the WI4 is relocated, the Wolfe Islander III (WI3) will resume service to the
Marysville dock. Starting at 0530h on Sunday, December 22, the WI3 will operate
between Marysville and Kingston on a 60-minute round trip schedule. There will be two
30-minute layovers in the schedule, at 2300h and 0030h each night. This service
update is being shared with ferry users via Ontario 511, X, the email distribution list, and
signage at the dock.
There is a chance the weather on Saturday may not be favourable to move the WI4. If
that happens, these plans may be delayed and we will notify the public as soon as
possible.
The repair work is a priority for the ministry and will be completed as quickly as
possible. Working with our partners, the ministry continues to actively investigate the
causes and mitigation measures related to this incident.
I will provide additional updates as we progress this work and when more information is
available.
Sincerely,
Franca Sacchetti
