REMINDER CHANGES TO THE RECYCLING DEPOT COLLECTION POLICY
Please note that Howe Island Recycling Depot is not accepting Alcohol/Wine/Beer Cans or Refundable Bottles.
Please be advised that the Howe Island Recycling Depot will no longer accept alcohol, wine, beer cans, or refundable bottles. This change is being made to ensure transparency and align with updated practices.
Previous Collection Practice: Previously, a Township employee collected these bottles and cans from the recycling depot, with proceeds used to fund Children’s Baseball activities.
New Funding Approach: The Township has now allocated direct funding for Children’s Baseball, which includes equipment replacement and the end-of-summer BBQ. As a result, the collection of these items at the depot is discontinued.
Alternative Disposal Options: Residents are encouraged to:
Return alcohol, wine, beer cans, and bottles to appropriate off-island locations.
Arrange disposal with Mike Hart at 34 North Shore Road. Any arrangements will be directly between you and Mike Hart.
Reason for Change: The recycling depot lacks proper storage facilities for these items. For health and safety reasons, staff buildings cannot be used for storage.
Additional Recycling Guidelines:
Cardboard: Please flatten cardboard before bringing it to the depot.
Cans and Plastic Bottles: Crushing cans and plastic bottles prior to disposal is appreciated. This effort helps reduce the number of large recycling collection containers and lowers overall costs.
